Specifications for Electric Service (Blue Book)
These specifications acquaint electric customers or customers’ representatives with the general character of electric service supplied by GP&L, and serves as a guide to architects, builders, electrical contractors and engineers in the planning of electrical installations.
Photovoltaic/Solar Installations
All customers planning to install photovoltaic panels must meet GP&L's Solar Generation Installation Requirements. These requirements help ensure the safety of the linemen who work on our electric system.

Overhead Construction Standards – Distribution System
GP&L groups material units together to form large, all-encompassing construction standards. This section addresses the Overhead portion of the distribution system, which includes primarily the pole-mounted features of the standards.
Underground Construction Standards – Distribution System
GP&L groups material units together to form large, all-encompassing construction standards. This section addresses the Underground portion of the distribution system, which includes primarily the pad-mounted features of the standards.
Reference Drawings – Distribution System
This section provides added detail regarding clearance and spacing when using multiple construction standards in different applications on the distribution system. It also provides specific requirements for the placement of GP&L identification markings.
Specifications for Transmission Service
These standards are to be used as a starting point for consumers, generators or other utilities who want to connect to GP&L’s transmission system. Final design of any interconnection needs to be coordinated through GP&L’s Transmission and Distribution Substation Engineering group.
